Host Annotation Workflow

VirJenDB host annotations are generated using complementary source-derived and inferred host assignment strategies.

Source-derived Host Annotations

Host information is incorporated from original source databases, including:

• Submitter-provided annotations (e.g. GenBank/RefSeq, PHDaily)
• Computational host predictions from IMG/VR

These annotations are preserved and harmonized within VirJenDB.

Prophage-derived Host Assignments

Additional host assignments are inferred from prophages predicted from microbial genomes using:

• PhiSpy v4.2.21

For prophage-derived entries, host corresponds to the microbial genome containing the predicted prophage.
